Alf's Story

Alf was brought to BARC through no fault of his own and was the sweetest dog you could ever meet, he loved to go for walks and play fetch with his tennis ball and also got on very well with the dogs at BARC. Alf was sadly overlooked at BARC and spent many months waiting to be chosen. We were lucky enough to be helped by a Germany charity who advertised him on their website. He didn't have to wait long for someone to fall in love with him and on the 14th October he made the journey to his new forever home.

Alf is now living the good life on a farm, has a new four legged friend to hang out with and all the grass he could ever want (a rare thing in Cyprus). His new family sent us some photos of Cody as he is now called and I'm sure you'll agree he looks very content....and we are all so very pleased for him.

Waggy Walk raises much needed funds

A huge thank you and WELL DONE to all the walkers who took their four legged friends on a 10K walk all to raise funds for BARC.
The new Friends of BARC Chairperson, Wendy Rayner organised the walk and enlisted the help of many of our volunteers to take part on the day. Some of the dogs walked are BARC dogs all waiting for loving homes. Everyone enjoyed the walk especially the dogs! They started at 6am and returned just in time to beat the rain!

An amazing amount was raised by all the walkers....around 500 euros but with sponsor money still coming in, this could rise!
All the dogs at BARC need to be walked every day and we are in need of more caring people to help. If you would like to become a dog walker please call 2596 3733

World Cup fun at BARC

The sun was shining down on BARC this Saturday as the World Cup fun day took place. The morning was kicked off with Roary The Lion in his England football shirt to entertain kids and adults alike...he tried his luck at the penalty shoot out and did rather well for a Lion! There were plenty of stalls to keep visitors occupied and and lots of footy themed games to get involved with.
CJPU very kindly opened their bar for visitors on the day which was very much appreciated. A super raffle with wonderful prizes rounded off the day.
The staff and volunteers all worked really hard to make the day a success and a total of 700 euros was raised, which will all go towards looking after the many Cats and Dogs at BARC.
A huge thank you to all that helped and attented on the day...let's hope the next event is an even bigger success!

Happily ever after...

Look at these two...like peas in a pod! Bella the Beagle has recently been rehomed to Clare and Jim in Episkopi. They already had a dog they rehomed from Canada and brought with them called Macy. Even though they differ in sizes they play beautifully together and have become inseperable. Long may they be happy!!!

Happy Tail!

Everyone loves a happy ending and Derek who has recently been rehomed from BARC has found his! His new owners saw him on our website before they had even arrived in Cyprus and fell in love with him. When they arrived they came to visit Derek a number of times and brought their existing dog, Ben with them. We're happy to say Derek is loving his new life with his adopted brother Ben and they are getting along extremely well.

If you have rehomed a dog from BARC we always love to see photos of them and an update as to how they are doing.

Kingsman Roary Gets His Pet Passport!!!

2 LANCS'S very own Roary the Lion has been given the pampered pet treatment and now has a Pet Passport!

The 2LANCS welfare office wanted to make sure that Roary is ready to leave when the battalion return to the UK in 2011…one less thing to worry about when the time comes to say goodbye to Cyprus.

BARC recommends that all pet owners start the pet passport process in good time to avoid any unnecessary separation from their four-legged friends. This beauty needs a home

A BARC staff member found this beautiful young female pointer on Sunday on the Episkopi Garrison. She has been taken to the SBA police and will be transferred to the military vets once the required period of time has elapsed for her to be claimed. She was hungry and dehydrated yet was still wagging her tail. Such a gentle dog who deserves a chance of happiness. If you are interested in adopting her please contact Laura on 97786608.

A Very Happy New Year!

Storm, who we featured on our Christmas post below has been adopted by a lovely family and is now called Rosie...she much prefers that name and is one very happy dog! Great to have some good news for the start of 2010. Also adopted are Rosie and Toffee; two gorgeous cats, their new owner works at the vets so they have also landed on their feet!
